Tree Service Questions, Spring TX
Straight answers about who does the work, what to do first when a tree comes down, and the rules around tree work in Spring.
Who actually does the tree work?
An independent tree service. Spring Tree Service Pros passes the request along; the company that takes it inspects the tree, quotes it and does the job. Scheduling, cleanup and warranty questions go to them.
A limb is on my roof. What do I do first?
Get everyone out of the rooms under it and away from that side of the house. If a wire is caught in the tree, call CenterPoint Energy, and 911 if anyone is in danger. Then call a tree crew. A crew removes the limb; a roofer handles the roof afterward.
How far should I stay from a downed line?
CenterPoint Energy says at least 35 feet, and to contact the utility. Treat any wire on the ground as live.
Does Texas license tree trimmers?
This site found no Texas state license for trimming or removing trees. Pesticide work is different: applying pesticide to trees for hire requires a Texas Department of Agriculture license.
What does ISA certified mean?
The International Society of Arboriculture certifies arborists by a 200-question exam after at least three years of experience, and the credential is renewed every three years with continuing education. It is voluntary. ISA publishes a directory of credential holders.
My pine is turning brown from the top. Is it dying?
Often, yes. The Texas A&M Forest Service describes pine foliage going from green to yellow to red when bark beetles are at work. Have it looked at soon; a dead pine near a house does not get safer with time.
Do I need a permit?
Probably not from the county for a private lot in unincorporated Spring; this site found none. Check your deed restrictions, which often do require approval. The permits page has the detail.
Do I have to be home?
For the first look, it helps. For the work, ask the company; many need gate access and cars moved out of the driveway, not the owner in person.
What happens to the wood?
It depends on the quote. Hauling, leaving logs cut to length, and chipping on site are all common. Get it in writing.
Will the crew grind the stump too?
Only if the quote includes it. Removal and stump grinding are often priced separately, and some companies send a different machine on a different day.
What does a removal cost?
This site does not publish prices. Height, lean, what the tree is over and how close a truck can get decide the number. The company quotes after seeing it.
Still Not Sure How Soon It Needs a Crew?
Describe it. The tree service that calls back can usually tell from the first look which tier it belongs in.
